Temperatures for the first week of summer stay very close to average and occasional showers and storms remain in the forecast.
Monday’s forecast
Behind a cold front that brought much of the state storms on Sunday, most of Minnesota started 40s and 50s Monday morning, with southeast Minnesota staying in the 60s. Afternoon highs are also likely to be 5 to 10 degrees below average, ranging from the upper 60s to mid-70s.
Although Monday will be far quieter than Sunday, there will be enough instability that both the southern and northern edge of the state could see a few isolated showers or storms, especially in the afternoon or evening.
This will also keep a mix of sunshine and clouds across most of the state through the day. Winds stay predominantly out of the north and northwest, with only a light breeze.

Temperatures
Unlike last week’s record heat and widespread 90s, this week stays much more seasonable. Average highs in Minnesota this time of year range from the mid-70s in northern Minnesota (and slightly cooler on the edge of Lake Superior) to the low 80s in the southern portion of the state. For the first half of this week, temperatures run slightly below average. The second half of the week likely puts northern Minnesota near average and southern Minnesota slightly warmer. Here is that temperature trend for the Twin Cities:
Unsettled weather
Although the overall weather pattern remains quiet the first half of the week, there will be enough instability for a couple spotty showers or storms to develop across Minnesota Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. Thursday stays predominantly dry, but by that evening, showers and storms likely move in with a weather system that impacts the state Friday.
There is still a lot of uncertainty with that system, but there is a good chance the showers and storms will be widespread and could bring some areas of heavy rain.
