This is the last full week on the job for Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner Myron Frans. He has spent nearly a decade leading the state’s revenue and budget divisions.

He leaves at a difficult time. The state is looking at multibillion-dollar budget shortfalls for the coming years, and plenty of uncertainty as the pandemic drags on.

Still, rather than taking a break as he exits the Walz administration, Frans is headed straight into yet another steep budgetary challenge. He'll be the new leader for finance and operations at the University of Minnesota.

Frans spoke with MPR News host Cathy Wurzer about his career and what’s to come.
