Large areas of rain crossed most of Minnesota from west to east early Monday before giving way to a delightful end-of-August day. I measured just a bit more than half an inch of rain in Minneapolis while heavier rain fell farther south. Zumbrota picked up 2 inches while Owatonna topped that with as much as 2.6 inches.
The cold front that triggered the showers and storms ushered in cooler, very dry air — sort of a practice day for September.
Mostly dry week coming with just stray showers possible
Tuesday and Wednesday will be dry, beautiful days for most of us. A few light showers might break out later on Tuesday near the Canadian border and across the Arrowhead. A better chance of scattered showers is likely Wednesday night across about the northern half of Minnesota.
Two warmups this week
High temperatures on Tuesday will be mainly in the 70s with the Twin Cities reaching about 75. Wednesday will be several degrees warmer.

A cold front early on Thursday will bring another cooldown before that second warmup.
The Twin Cities should warm into the low 80s on Saturday while southwestern Minnesota is likely to see upper 80s and maybe a 90 or two.
Weekend cold front
A cold front from the northwest could bring thunderstorms to parts of Minnesota sometime during the period from late Saturday into Sunday. Strong storms might be possible with the frontal passage.
Minnesota will be much cooler on Sunday after that cold front passes. Afternoon high temperatures around Ely, Isabella and the Boundary Waters could easily be held to the low 60s that day.
Colder-than-normal outlook
The 6-10 day temperature probability outlook for next Sunday through Thursday, Sept. 6-10, is for a very good chance of cooler-than-normal temperatures for the middle of the country including Minnesota. Labor Day weekend campers will be glad they packed sweatshirts.
