Minnesota sees active weather through the weekend

Sunshine has returned across Minnesota for Veterans Day after Tuesday’s snow, but the rest of the week remains active with additional rain and snow chances.

Tuesday’s snowfall impacted most of the state, from southern and central Minnesota, up through the Arrowhead. The highest amount of snow was near Brainerd, with a couple reports of 9 and 10 inches. There were also similar reports near Grand Rapids.

For the Twin Cities area, there were many reports of 4 or 5 inches, although the east side of the metro missed much of the snow. 

Even though skies have cleared, be prepared for lingering slick spots Wednesday.

Another cold front

As the snow moved out late Tuesday, skies cleared quickly, allowing temperatures to drop overnight. Because of this, most of the state started in the teens and low 20s Wednesday morning, although a couple spots in northern Minnesota dropped into the single digits.

Considering the chilly start, temperatures warmup reasonably well, with highs expected in the mid-30s north to a few 40s west. 

This is near to slightly below average for the middle of November. 

Plentiful sunshine continues for most of the state through Wednesday. However, northern Minnesota can expect more clouds in the afternoon, along with light snow as an area of low pressure starts moving in.

A little rain likely mixes in with the snow during the afternoon, when temperatures are above freezing.

That low pressure also moves a cold front across the state from late Wednesday through Thursday morning, which brings a more widespread snow chance to central and southern Minnesota Thursday. 

The snow accumulation will be limited, under an inch for most places, and includes light snow chances for the Twin Cities Thursday morning through early afternoon.

That front cools temperatures slightly, so highs Thursday will be only in the 20s north and 30s south. 

Extended forecast

More sunshine returns Friday, but temperatures remain cool, with highs in the 30s.

By the weekend, much of Minnesota could see a few 40s again, which would be closer to average for mid-November. Another weather system also moves through over the weekend. 

The timing is still a little uncertain, but it brings rain and snow chances Saturday into early Sunday. 

The precipitation will be mixed due to the slightly milder temperatures, and currently it appears the rain and snow should remain light.

Next week turns milder, with more 40s and probably a few 50s by midweek.
