The deepest of this winter’s deep freezes is moving in.
The coldest air mass of winter oozes south into the Upper Midwest this weekend. Subzero daytime highs and wind chills approaching 50-below will feed into Minnesota this weekend.
Temperatures will likely reach 30 to 40 below in northern Minnesota the next few nights. The Twin Cities will likely bottom out around 20 below.
Wind chill warnings and advisories cover parts of 17 states and extend as far south as Oklahoma.

* WHEN...From 11 PM this evening to 11 AM CST Friday.
* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Looking ahead, colder wind chills are forecast for Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Temperatures will begin to moderate next week with highs back into the teens above zero. Highs in the 30s, and possible 40s look possible in late February.
