Minnesota is known for extreme weather.
But the temperature swing in places like Ely over the past 9 days is nothing short of remarkable.
On Feb. 13, a weather station east of Ely set an all-time daily state minimum temperature record of 50 degrees below zero. Several other locations set daily low temperature records on Feb. 13.
Monday’s mild Pacific air mass has boosted temperature above the freezing mark at many locations for the first time since Feb. 4.

Temperature have reached the 40s at several locations across northern Minnesota.
The temperature in Ely rose to near 40 degrees today. So that’s about 90 degrees warmer than just 9 days ago.
Light snow up north Tuesday
Tuesday brings another day of temperatures near 40 degrees in southern Minnesota. But a Clipper system brings some snow to north-central Minnesota Tuesday. NOAAA’s GFS model shows the snow zone running either aide of a Fargo to Hinckley line.
Overall snowfall totals should be on the lighter side Tuesday. Expect a zone of 1 to 3-inches across much of north-central Minnesota.
High temperatures will be in the 20s north and 30s south for most of this week.
