The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man fatally shot by law enforcement in Isanti County last weekend.

Dominic Lucas Koch, 27, of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, died of multiple gunshot wounds Sunday, according to the medical examiner.

Police said they responded to a report of a theft at a Kohl’s department store in Blaine just before 1 p.m. The Isanti County Sheriff’s Department said two men fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, then stole another vehicle at gunpoint and led police on a 40-mile chase.

The men fled on foot after the stolen pickup became disabled on Highway 65 near Braham and exchanged gunshots with police, according to officials.

An officer sustained minor injuries. The man who was with Koch was arrested.

The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says the police dog Bravo who was shot during the ordeal has been released from the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center and is recovering at home.
