Welcome to Miami in Minnesota. The dew point officially hit 70 degrees at Blaine Friday afternoon. That’s the first 70-degree dew point I've seen in the Twin Cities this year.
Heavy, swollen cumulus clouds tower in the afternoon sky.
Deep tropical moisture and strong May heating combine to puff up lumpy moisture-laden clouds that drop showers and local downpours. The showers will gradually fade as we head through Friday evening. But if you get under one of these tropical downpours, it will rain hard for a few minutes.
Dew points Friday surged into the upper 60s to 70 degrees across the Upper Midwest. You can see the plume of tropical moisture on the dew point map streaming into Minnesota straight from the Gulf of Mexico.
Welcome to the sticky season.
