This month’s heat wave prompted an MPR listener to ask about the statewide record for consecutive days with temps at or above 90 degrees.
According to retired University of Minnesota climatologist and meteorologist Mark Seeley, the state record for June was set in Chippewa County in 1933, with 16 days in a row of 90+ degree temps. The all-time state record is 25 days, set in Big Stone County in July 1936.
MPR News host Cathy Wurzer talked with Seeley about those records — and the current heat wave — in their weekly weather chat.
