Tuesday’s weather system will bring plowable snow to about the northern half of Minnesota. With temperatures in the teens and 20s, slick roads will be an issue again Tuesday. Here’s the latest forecast read from the midday forecast models Monday afternoon.
The system
This one is sort of a hybrid clipper. It’s not following a true Alberta clipper track. The surface low will track from near Rapid City, S.D., around midnight Monday, to near the Twin Cities by midday Tuesday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s 18Z NAM 3 km resolution model tracks the low and snow shield across the Dakotas into Minnesota between midnight Monday and noon Tuesday.

Snow will begin in the Red River Valley around midnight, then spread across northern Minnesota through 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Snow is most likely to begin in the Twin Cities area from west to east between about 6 and 9 a.m. Tuesday, so we could have light snow starting sometime during the morning rush hours Tuesday.
The steadiest snow will fall Tuesday morning through the noon hour before tapering off from west to east through Tuesday afternoon.

Most forecast models lay down a wide swath of between 2 and 5 inches of snow across the northern half of Minnesota.
The Twin Cities looks likely to ride the southern edges of the accumulating snowfall zone. This will likely result in a range from a coating of snow in the southern Twin Cities to as much as 2 inches in the north metro.

Temperatures Tuesday will reach the 20s in the Twin Cities, with teens up north. This will mean slick roads once again.
