Temperatures hold or fall through the day Monday. Expect single digits for the southern half of Minnesota and subzero readings in northern Minnesota. Subzero temperatures through Tuesday give way to high teens and 20s above zero by Wednesday.
Deep freeze through Tuesday night
As expected, three clipper system the past few days brought a total of 4.7 inches of fresh snow to the Twin Cities area. Much of Minnesota saw at least some fresh snow.
Temperatures will fall in far southern Minnesota and largely hold during the day in central and northern Minnesota. It’s already below zero for the northern half of the state and will remain there.
Winds will blow Monday from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts as high as 30. The wind will easily cause blowing and drifting of the very fluffy, light snow.

Temperatures Monday night plummet into the teens and 20s below zero for most with some northern locations in the minus 30s.
The wind chill factor will make it feel much colder than the actual air temperature.
A wind chill advisory is in effect Monday into Tuesday morning for central and southern Minnesota with a wind chill warning set to take effect Monday night in northern and northwestern Minnesota where wind chills could be as cold as the minus 40s.
High temperatures Tuesday afternoon are likely to stay below zero for most of the state. A few lucky spots may get up to 1 or 2 degrees above zero.
We then have one more very cold night Tuesday. Temperatures in the Twin Cities could get close to our coldest reading this season so far: minus 17 on Jan. 7.
The cold departs Wednesday morning, allowing temperatures to really warm up by late in the day. We should be near 20 degrees and into the 20s farther west. We could flirt with 30 degrees on Thursday.
The weather will largely be quiet this week. We have just a few flurries or light snow showers on Thursday.
It also appears the real frigid air should stay away for at least the next 10 days, and by then, the coldest readings of the season just might be behind us.
