Quiet weather here; blizzard continues in New England Sat. night

Arctic chill for Minnesota midweek

Saturday was a pleasant late-January day. Our Twin Cities high temp was 27 degrees, which is 3 degrees above our average Jan. 29 high temp. Most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin had highs in the 20s, with 30s in southwestern Minnesota and parts of south-central Minnesota. The weather was much more active along the East Coast.

Blizzard conditions along the East Coast

A mix of winter storm warnings and blizzard warnings continue into Saturday night from Long Island, New York through much of New England:

There are already many reports from eastern Massachusetts of one to two feet of snow from this storm, and there have been several wind gust reports of 50-75 mph.

Here are some Saturday storm videos from eastern Massachusetts:

The storm will gradually lift off to the northeast later Saturday night into early Sunday. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 6 p.m. EST Saturday to 6 a.m. EST Sunday:

Minnesota snow chances?

Northern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin could see scattered light snow showers or flurries Saturday night and Sunday. Central Minnesota has a chance of scattered flurries Sunday afternoon, and a passing flurry is also possible in the metro area late on Sunday.

There is the potential for accumulating snow in northern Minnesota Monday evening into early Tuesday. NOAA’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from noon Monday to noon Tuesday:
