If your weekend plans include sledding, cross-country skiing or snowboarding, you’ll be happy to know that we have ample snow cover across most of Minnesota right now.

The Thursday snow depth map from the Minnesota State Climatology Office shows 12 inches or more of snow cover in roughly the northern half of Minnesota, with 4 to 8 inches of snow cover in most of southern Minnesota:

Much of Cook County and portions Lake County in northeastern Minnesota have at least 2 feet of snow on the ground.

The official Twin Cities snow depth (measured at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport) is currently 6 inches.

Snow is likely in northern Minnesota Saturday

Northern Minnesota is likely to see periods of snow late Friday night and on Saturday. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 1 a.m. Saturday to 11 p.m. Saturday:
