Tuesday will bring our warmest temperatures of this week, with most of Minnesota in the 30s to even near 40 in the south. Expect much colder conditions the next several days. The state rapidly warms Sunday to near 40 for many, and all of next week looks much warmer.

Mild, then cold with snow showers

While temperatures were already considerably warmer across the state early Tuesday, don’t get too excited for a sustained warmup. Tuesday will be a one-hit wonder. Highs will be in the 30s for much of Minnesota. Portions of southeastern Minnesota will reach 40.

Northwestern Minnesota will already see colder air moving in, keeping temperatures in the 20s there.

The cold front will increase winds ahead of it from the south today and also behind it. Expect pretty gusty winds by afternoon and evening ushering in the colder air.

That cold front will also bring some clouds and snow showers ahead of it. Northwestern Minnesota will see snow showers in the morning. Southeastern Minnesota likely will just see some flurries and light snow showers by late afternoon and evening.

Temperatures get even colder Friday into Saturday. Most of Minnesota likely won’t even reach 20 degrees Friday afternoon. That will set us up for a very cold night for mid-March Friday night into early Saturday morning.

Most of Minnesota will be subzero early Saturday morning, even possibly the Twin Cities. If the Twin cities drops below zero Saturday, it would be the latest subzero in a season since 2009.

It may all sound awful to those wishing for spring, but we rapidly warm up Sunday to near 40 for many and all of next week looks much warmer, perhaps even above normal, which by then is in the low 40s for the Twin Cities.

All of the computer models warm us into the upper 40s, if not in the 50s by Tuesday.
