Saturday has been a decent day for very early April, if breezy. Scattered light rain and snow have been falling on parts of northern Minnesota. Afternoon sprinkles broke out in southeastern Minnesota and then west central Wisconsin. The Twin Cities warmed to 53 degrees, a notch warmer than our average high of 50 for the date.
Next weather-maker to arrive on Sunday
A weak weather system from the Dakotas will swirl into Minnesota on Sunday. Areas of light rain will spread eastward across southern Minnesota during the day while mixtures of rain and snow will spread across much of the north.
Rain is likely to reach the Twin Cities by mid Sunday afternoon. Rain will likely become mixed with or change to all snow by late afternoon or early evening as the temperature falls from the low 40s into the mid 30s.

Rain and snow will continue around much of the state Sunday night but should end by early Monday. Some snow will melt as it falls. Any snow that accumulates should melt on Monday.
Messy storm Tuesday through Thursday
A much larger, plodding spring storm will trek into Minnesota with rain for central and southern Minnesota on Tuesday. Snow and rain will both be on the menu for northern Minnesota that day.
Periods of rain and snow will continue Tuesday night, Wednesday and probably well into Thursday. Areas of rain can be expected to change over to all snow as cold air wraps around the system. Several inches of snow could easily accumulate, mainly across the northern half of the state, depending on how much melts rather quickly. Forecasting snowfall accumulations in these “equinoctial” storms (near the spring equinox) is often quite inexact due to the rain-versus-snow uncertainty as well as that melting factor.
Regardless of the precipitation type, Thursday is likely to be a chilly day for the Minnesota Twins’ home opener at Target Field.
Friday and Saturday look pleasant
That storm will exit eastbound and leave us with a temperature recovery for next weekend. Next Saturday looks to be quite pleasant if that storm minds its manners and exits on schedule.
