It doesn’t take much this time of year.
A weak weather system brings light freezing drizzle with a candy coating of snow overnight into Wednesday. The same warm layer aloft that’s producing our trapping temperature inversion and poor air quality will allow falling precipitation to melt and reach the frozen ground in liquid form overnight.
With temperatures below freezing on the ground, any untreated roads and walkways may get enough ice to make for some slick spots Wednesday morning.
NOAA’s NAM 3 km model picks up the trend between 9 pm Tuesday and 6 pm Wednesday.

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of less than one inch and ice accumulations of a light glaze.
* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, south central and southeast Minnesota and west central Wisconsin.
* WHEN...From 9 PM this evening to 6 AM CST Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions.
High temperatures Wednesday afternoon should rise above freezing in most areas. That should help improve road conditions Wednesday.
