Rain showers for southern Minnesota and some freezing rain, wintry mix for central and western Minnesota Monday. The precipitation turns to snow Monday night into Tuesday morning with some accumulation.
A wet Monday
An unusual system for mid January is taking shape. We’ll see mainly rain across southern Minnesota Monday with freezing rain and a wintry mix possible in southwest and central Minnesota.
Rainfall amounts could add up to one quarter to one half inch for portions of southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities.
Temperatures will be mild and above freezing for many areas.

The potential for ice accumulation exists in some areas also where surface temperatures will be colder.
Rain turns to snow Monday night into Tuesday
The rain and mix of precipitation will turn to all snow Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Snowfall will accumulate for many areas, with the heaviest being in central Minnesota.
Temperatures will dip below freezing for most areas so watch out for some refreeze early Tuesday. Twin Cities temperatures will likely drop to just around freezing or slightly above.
Another possible storm system Thursday
We continue to have to watch a storm system developing Thursday that could affect southern Minnesota into Iowa and Wisconsin. There is still a wide range of possibilities with this system’s track.
Most models have been trending more and more north, which could put the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota on the northern portions of some significant snowfall.
