Snow showers linger in northeast Minnesota Tuesday. Highs will be in the 20s and 30s for most of the state. A winter storm watch is posted for late Wednesday into Thursday for southern Minnesota.
Mid-January rains, followed by snow
January rainfall has become a more common thing in Minnesota as our climate warms and Monday was certainly an example of that. We picked up about 34 one-hundredths of an inch (.34) of just rainfall in the Twin Cities and seven-tenths of an inch (.7) of snowfall.
We are two to three times more likely to receive rainfall in January, our coldest month of the year, compared to historically.
Snow totals varied with some parts of the northeast Twin Cities picking up 1 to 2 inches and snow still falling in northeastern Minnesota. Here’s a look at the latest snowfall totals:

Next winter storm develops late Wednesday
A winter storm watch is posted for much of southern and southeast Minnesota for late Wednesday into midday Thursday as significant snowfall is possible.
Snow showers will develop late Wednesday afternoon in southwestern Minnesota and spread east overnight into Thursday.
The heaviest snow will be all along Interstate 90 into southeastern Minnesota with at least a few inches in the Twin Cities area.
