By Sunday southern Minnesota will see above-freezing temperatures, with the Twin Cities in the mid-30s. A messier system arrives Monday.
Chilly Friday, light snow late; milder weekend
Friday will be chilly with highs just in the low teens southeast to subzero in the northwestern part of Minnesota. Those temperatures are a full 20 degrees colder than normal for the date.
As warmer air moves back into Minnesota, it will produce some clouds and light snow Friday evening and overnight combined with an upper-level disturbance.

Snowfall will be generally light, around 1 inch for most of eastern Minnesota to just a dusting or coating elsewhere.
Temperatures Saturday will be warmer, ranging from the 20s in southern Minnesota to single digits in northwestern Minnesota with more sunshine and an increasing breeze from the south-southeast at 10-15 mph.
By Sunday southern Minnesota will be above freezing.
Messy Monday system possible
The next significant storm system may be a mess for Minnesota. We’ll have to watch temperatures and where precipitation sets up very closely over the weekend.
We may have a swath of freezing rain and a wintry mix develop late Sunday night into early Monday with rain south and southeast and heavy snow developing northeast.
The best chance of ice right now looks to be across east-central Minnesota into northwestern Wisconsin.
While we stand to see some slushy accumulation of snow in the Twin Cities, the best chance of accumulating snowfall will be in northeastern Minnesota and along the North Shore.
Another system could bring more rain and snow showers across Minnesota late Tuesday into Wednesday.
Temperatures will remain near or slightly above normal though next week also.
