Sunshine Tuesday morning will be replaced by cloud cover and snow showers by late Tuesday into Wednesday. We’re then briefly cooler Thursday before warming back up. We’ll see several days of drier and calmer weather after Wednesday.

Our third significant rainfall of winter

What a mess. We received another 0.48 inches of rainfall Monday in the Twin Cities officially. The St. Anthony dam received 0.60 inches. It was our third such significant rainfall event of this winter.

The other rainfalls were February 14-15, and January 16. Each saw more than a quarter inch of rainfall. The three events combined come to almost 1.50 inches of water, that would have been at least 15 to 20 inches of additional snowfall. Considering we’ve received 71 inches of snowfall this season, and the record most snowfall in an entire season is 98.6 inches in 1983-1984, that’s a significant figure.

Northern Minnesota into northwest Wisconsin picked up several inches of snow. French River saw six inches.

More snow to end meteorological winter

It’s been a mild but wet and snowy winter and that’s how we’ll end it tonight. Snow showers will push into far western Minnesota by late Tuesday afternoon and evening. Eastern Minnesota can expect snow showers by about 8 to 10 p.m. late Tuesday evening. We’ll have on and off snow showers into Wednesday.
