A low pressure system will spread wet snow across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin as we go through Sunday afternoon and evening. It may mix with rain at times. Periods of mainly snow continue overnight in many areas.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from noon Sunday to noon on Monday:
The snow or rain/snow mix starts around midday in southwestern Minnesota, then spreads to the north and east. Arrival time in the Twin Cities metro area is expected to be around 4 or 5 p.m. today.
The Twin Cities metro area and parts of southern Minnesota could also have a bit of thunder and lightning this evening.

The Monday morning commuter period is going to be the main concern due to wet slushy snow and gusty winds.
