Scattered snow showers Wednesday
The first round of snow has already led to accumulations in western Minnesota where up to 2 to 3 inches has fallen through early Wednesday.
That area of scattered snow showers will expand east through Wednesday, leading to some additional, relatively light, accumulations.
Heavier snow develops Thursday afternoon
A winter storm watch goes into effect midday Thursday through Thursday night for the potential of significant snowfall across southern Minnesota.

A piece of energy aloft, an upper-level wave, will be moving quickly east after helping to produce heavy snow in the mountains.
That upper-level disturbance will allow snow to expand and intensify Thursday afternoon into Thursday night.
Storm total accumulations will be heaviest in southeastern Minnesota but there will be a broad area of significant snowfall across the southern half of Minnesota.
More snowfall develops late Saturday
Yet another system moves through Minnesota late Saturday into Sunday bringing more snow.
Right now, most models favor west-central to northwestern Minnesota for the heaviest snowfall but much of Minnesota will see accumulations.
