The coverage zone for blizzard and winter storm warnings expanded across northern Minnesota late Monday afternoon. Most of northeastern Minnesota is now included in winter storm warnings as you can see in the image above.

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 19 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 to 50 mph.
* WHERE...Portions of northwest Minnesota and northeast North Dakota.
* WHEN...From noon Tuesday to 7 AM CDT Thursday.
IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Widespread falling and blowing snow will significantly reduce the visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes.

* WHERE...Portions of central, north central, northwest and west central Minnesota.
* WHEN...From 6 AM Tuesday to 7 AM CDT Thursday.
* IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult to impossible. Widespread falling and blowing snow will significantly reduce the visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes.

* WHERE...Morrison, Mille Lacs, Pope, Stearns and Benton Counties. * WHEN...From 6 AM Tuesday to 7 PM CDT Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.
* WHERE...Carlton and South St. Louis County. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Fond du Lac Band. * WHEN...From 9 AM Tuesday to 7 PM CDT Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Temporary blizzard conditions are expected Tuesday afternoon. Expect a lot of sleet to mix in. Sleet will act to lower the total snow accumulations, but is equally as dangerous.
The Monday afternoon forecast models remain pretty consistent on the notion of mostly rain in the Twin Cities Tuesday, with an icy mix across central Minnesota toward the North Shore.
The heaviest snowfall zone remains focused on about the northwest third of Minnesota.
