Wintry weather lingers Wednesday with gusty winds; warmer weekend

Snow showers and some patchy freezing drizzle will linger for northern Minnesota with additional accumulation, mainly near the international border. Winds will gust to 35 to 50 mph Wednesday. Temps warm up by the weekend.
Wintry system continues Wednesday
Much of northern Minnesota saw fresh snow Tuesday into early Wednesday with the snow continuing in many places. Totals were around a foot from Roseau to Warroad. Totals were in the 2 to 5-inch range in northeastern Minnesota and along the North Shore.
There were also some extreme wind gusts Tuesday night with Duluth International Airport, clocking a wind gust of 70 mph at 11 p.m. Farther up the North Shore, Grand Marais had a 63 mph wind gust at 4 a.m. Wednesday. Winds will be lighter but still gusting to near 50 mph. Wednesday afternoon.

There will be some additional snowfall in mainly northern Minnesota.
Gusty winds will pick back up at more than 40 mph from the northwest as the low-pressure center passes east.
Colder, then warmer this weekend
Thursday will continue to be chilly behind the storm system with well below normal temperatures. Highs will be in the 20s and 30s. We’ll see sunshine return also.
By Saturday we’re looking at the first 60 in the Twin Cities as much warmer air moves into the region this weekend.
Next week will bring even warmer temperatures with potentially our first 70s.
