A sun-splashed and warm Sunday in most areas

Northwestern and west-central Minnesota have the best chance of rain today

A nearby high pressure system will deliver sunshine to much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin this Sunday.

There will be some clouds and rain off to the northwest. Showers and thunderstorms were over portions of the Red-River Valley at 8 a.m., and they will spread a bit eastward over the next couple of hours. The best chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms today will be over northwestern Minnesota and parts of west-central Minnesota.

A few showers and thunderstorms could move into north-central Minnesota by evening.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center shows a marginal risk of severe weather (shaded darker green) this Sunday and Sunday night in a portion of northwestern Minnesota:

Marginal risk means that an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible.

Summery warmth

The average Twin Cities high temperature is 83 degrees on July 2. Metro area highs are expected to be around 90 degrees this Sunday.

Sunday highs will be well into the 80s across most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, with a few spots in southern Minnesota and far northwestern Minnesota hitting 90:

Update

Our weather will become unsettled on Monday, with showers and thunderstorms in some areas. Most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have the potential for periods of showers and thunderstorms on the Fourth of July. We’ll post details on that thunderstorm potential in the new Updraft that’s coming at around 10:30 this morning.
