Hit and miss thunderstorms with a marginal severe risk Saturday

A cluster of clouds and showers is drifting southeast Saturday morning, sparked by an upper level disturbance. With day time heating and a subtle increase in dew points thunderstorms will redevelop Saturday afternoon and evening.

The showers will be hit and miss so don’t expect much drought relief but a couple storms could turn severe. We have a marginal risk (level 1 out of 5) of severe storms for southern Minnesota Saturday afternoon and evening. The main threats would be some large hail and an isolated high wind gust.

Don’t look for much in the way of rainfall next week either, meaning the drought will almost certainly worsen across the state.
