Some thunder is rumbling at the Weather Lab as I post this today. I’m happy about that. We’ve been mostly missed by rainfall here in the southwestern Twin Cities this summer. Bring on the rain.
A weak front is spawning a few scattered showers and thunderstorms this Wednesday. Most of the cells will be garden variety late summer thundershowers. But a couple could approach severe limits with hail and gusty winds. NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has placed a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) across central Minnesota including the Twin Cities Wednesday..
They estimate only a 5 percent chance of a weather watch for Minneapolis and St. Paul today.
NOAA’s HRRR model shows limited rainfall coverage is likely to be into Wednesday evening. The loop below runs between 3 and 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Thursday night storms
The next storm chances roll across Minnesota Thursday evening. NOAA’s FV3 model suggests storms in western Minnesota Thursday evening could reach eastern Minnesota and the Twin Cities around midnight.
Highs Thursday will run in the 70s to 80s again across Minnesota.
