After significant rainfall, lingering showers Monday and cool; heating up this week

We saw significant rainfall Sunday night and those showers are lingering into Monday across southern Minnesota. Sunshine is back Tuesday and 90 degrees could return by week’s end.

After significant rainfall, lingering showers and cool Monday

A wide swath of over one inch of rain fell across much of central Minnesota Sunday night into early Monday. Some areas saw two or more inches around St. Cloud to Elk River. At the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, 1.38 inches of rain fell as of 8 a.m., making it the biggest precipitation event since March 31.

Scattered showers will linger across central and southeast Minnesota into early Monday afternoon. Some places could pick up an additional quarter inch of rainfall.

The clouds and showers will keep temperatures cool south, just in the 60s to low 70s but northwest Minnesota should see some sun and will be warmer.

Sun returns Tuesday with thunder possible late Wednesday

With all that moisture and clearing skies overnight, we’ll see areas of fog develop across much of central Minnesota into western Wisconsin.

Tuesday will see sunshine with high temperatures back to normal in the 70s and low 80s.  Wednesday will become a bit more steamy across southern Minnesota with dew points increasing into the 60s and temperatures warming into the upper 80s to even near 90 for some west central Minnesota locations.

A cool front will touch off some showers and thunderstorms in northern Minnesota first on Wednesday afternoon into the overnight farther south.

Heating up by the weekend

Thursday will be a bit cooler behind the cold front but heat will be building in pretty quickly Friday into the weekend. We could be in for at least couple 90 degree days this weekend into next week.
