It will be hot and windy Wednesday ahead of a cool front that will touch off storms late in the day. Some of those storms could be severe. It’ll be cooler on Thursday before heating up again.
Hot, windy Wednesday with storms developing late
Temperatures jump up in central and southern Minnesota Wednesday ahead of a cool front. Highs will be well into the 80s to even low 90s.
It will be muggier as well with dew points well into the 60s to even near 70. It will also be very windy with afternoon winds from the southwest at 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 35 to 40 mph.
An air quality alert remains in effect for portions of northern Minnesota through 10 a.m. Wednesday. We're monitoring conditions for potential additional alerts into Thursday with a second round of smoke behind a front.

Storms will develop in northeast Minnesota first in the afternoon ahead of a cool front and develop farther south along the front.
There’s a slight risk of severe weather with storms developing. The primary threats are damaging winds and large hail.
Behind the front it will be cooler Thursday, mostly in the 70s statewide with sunshine and drier dew points. It will be much hotter heading into the weekend and early next week with 90s returning.
