Unusually hot weather blasts in for Tuesday and Wednesday across southern Minnesota with overnight thunderstorms possible Monday night north.

Warm overnight, thunderstorm possible north

It was a whole different world in southwestern Minnesota as the warm front divided it from the rest of Minnesota. Just 60 miles southwest of the Twin Cities heat index values reached 100 to 105 as dew points soared into the 70s with temperatures in the low 90s.

In addition to some hot and humid days ahead we’ll also have some rather warm overnights. Southern Minnesota will remain mostly above 70 degrees overnight into Tuesday.

In addition, we are looking at showers and thunderstorms to develop north ahead of the warm front as the hot, humid air mass moves north.

Dew points will be rather high also, in the mid-70s at times, something we haven’t seen much of this summer but did as recently as Saturday.

This will make for heat index values well into the triple digits Tuesday and Wednesday.

The heat will break by Friday into the weekend with temperatures returning closer to normal.

Unfortunately, we won’t see a lot of rain along with the hot weather. Northern Minnesota stands the best chance as the upper-level ridge of high pressure largely keeps systems flowing up and around most of the region.
