Mainly 50s for highs today and Monday, then a bit warmer; Wednesday rain chance

Fall color update for leaf-peepers

This is fairly typical weather for mid October.

Sunday afternoon highs will be mainly in the 50s across Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Twin Cities metro area highs are forecast to be a few degrees shy of average, which is 59 degrees this time of year.

Tuesday high temperatures reach the lower 60s in the Twin Cities metro area and portions of western and southern Minnesota, with 50s elsewhere:

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the lower 60s on Wednesday, followed by mid 50s Thursday and upper 50s on Friday.

Rain chances

Most of Minnesota will have a rain-free Sunday. Parts of far southeastern Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin could see a brief sprinkle late Sunday morning and early Sunday afternoon.

Monday and Tuesday look dry, then patchy showers are possible in Minnesota and western Wisconsin late Tuesday night and into Wednesday/Wednesday night. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale forecast model shows the potential rain pattern from 1 a.m. Wednesday to 7 p.m. Wednesday:

Fall color report

Portions of northern Minnesota are past peak for fall colors, but beautiful fall colors are still on display across much of Minnesota.

Weather nugget

The official Twin Cities high temperature (measured at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport) has been in the 50s on 7 of the past 9 days. The only warmer readings at MSP over the past 9 days were 60 degrees on Oct. 8 and 62 degrees on October 11.
