Storms redevelop Tuesday in southern Minnesota

Thunderstorms will develop again across southern Minnesota Tuesday. Some of those could be strong with large hail. More rain develops Wednesday night. Snow will develop in northwestern Minnesota.

Strong storms possible in southern MN

We saw thunderstorms flare up across southern Minnesota Monday night into early Tuesday as expected. Some storms produced one-quarter to three-quarter inch hail from Blooming Prairie through Rochester and Winona.

We’ll see a near repeat Tuesday as storms redevelop across southwestern Minnesota through the morning and across southern Minnesota midday into the afternoon.

There’s a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) of severe storms with the primary threats again being from hail.

High temperatures will be quite mild across southern Minnesota with 60s and even 70s in far southeastern Minnesota. Northwestern Minnesota will already be cooling off with highs there only in the 40s.

More rain Wednesday night; snow northwest

Wednesday will be mostly dry, most of the day. It will still be relatively mild south but colder north.

Showers will already start to develop in northwestern Minnesota by evening and spread east and south into Wednesday night through Thursday and Friday.

The rain will mix with and turn to snow in northwestern Minnesota late Wednesday night into Friday at times with accumulations looking increasingly likely. Several inches could fall in the far northwest counties of Minnesota through midday Friday.

Total additional rainfall will be considerable across especially southern Minnesota with up to 2 more inches. Some areas will have received 4 or 5 inches this week by Friday when we include Monday night’s rainfall.

It will be considerably colder statewide by the weekend. Highs will be in the 30s and 40s with gusty winds Thursday and Friday at 10-30 mph from the northwest. Wind chill values by early Saturday will range from the single digits in the northwest to the 20s southeast.
