Lingering clouds Thursday, still mild into Friday
Moisture from our Christmas storm system is still blanketing much of Minnesota in clouds and even spitting out a few flurries in southeast Minnesota Thursday. Clouds will slowly decrease from north to south late Thursday into Friday.
High temperatures Thursday will be mostly in the 30s with some cooler pockets in northwest Minnesota. A few places along the North Shore could hit 40 degrees.
With clear breaks developing overnight, temperatures will be colder than the last several nights (but still above normal) with lows in the 20s mostly. Northern Minnesota will see some temperatures in the teens.

Friday will be mild with highs in the 30s to near 40 with more sunshine. It will likely be the most sunshine we’ve seen in about a week!
Weekend clipper brings light snow and cooler conditions
The last weekend of 2023 will bring a taste of some wintry weather — cooler temperatures (but still above normal) and some light snow. A clipper system will swing through touching off light snow showers late Saturday in northern Minnesota and those snow showers will dive south into early Sunday.
In a normal winter this snow wouldn’t be much to write about, but this season it’s significant. Northeast Minnesota could see up to 2 inches in some spots from Duluth to Ely. Farther south, we’re likely to see a coating to as much as a half inch of snow into Sunday morning.
The clipper will also knock temperatures down some. Keep in mind normal highs range from the upper teens north to mid-20s south, so these readings are still several degrees above normal Sunday.
The eight to 14-day outlook calls for a slightly better chance than not of above-normal temperatures, but it does look as though we’ll see temperatures closer to normal by the second week of January.
