Our Sunday weather will be fairly quiet. Parts of northern and central Minnesota could see a few scattered light snow showers. A passing flurry is possible elsewhere in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Some roads could have slick spots due to the snow/light freezing drizzle that we saw earlier this weekend. Minnesota road conditions can be found here. Wisconsin road conditions can be found here.

A low pressure sytem will spread accumulating snow across several states Sunday night through Monday and into early Tuesday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale Forecast System model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 11 p.m. Sunday to noon on Tuesday:

Notice that parts of southwestern Minnesota could see 6 inches or more of snow.

Twin Cities metro area snow amounts look to be in the 2 to 3 inch range, based on new forecast model info. The metro area could see light snow at times during the daylight hours of Monday, with steadier snow Monday night into early Tuesday.

Parts of southeastern South Dakota and northeastern Nebraska could approach double-digit snow totals from the storm:

Rock County of far southwestern Minnesota is in a winter storm watch from 11 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Temperatures

Many spots in Minnesota saw their Sunday high temps around 1 a.m. Sunday. The Twin Cities temperature was 30 degrees at that hour.

Mid-afternoon temps will be in the 20s in many Minnesota locations, with teens in northwestern, north-central and west-central Minnesota. Parts of west-central Wisconsin will see lower 30s.

Monday highs will range from teens in far northwestern Minnesota to 30s in the southeast:

Tuesday high temps will range from teens in northwestern and west-central Minnesota to 30s in the Twin Cities metro area and southeastern Minnesota into western Wisconsin:

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to be around 30 degrees on Wednesday, followed by lower 20s Thursday and then teens on Friday.

Weather nugget

So far this snow season, the Twin Cities snowfall total (measured at MSP airport) is just 5.6 inches. The snow season begins in the fall and it can continue into early spring.

The Twin Cities season snowfall total is currently 15.6 inches below the Twin Cities average snowfall total to this point in the snow season. By this date last year, the Twin Cities season snowfall total was 48.3 inches!
