Weekend weather: Rising temps; shower chance Sunday afternoon & evening

Today we’re finishing up the warmest February in Twin Cities weather records, as well as the warmest meteorological winter (December through February) in Twin Cities weather records. This is also the warmest meteorological winter in statewide weather records.

Weekend temps

Above-normal temps are on tap for the weekend. The average Twin Cities high temperature is 35 degrees on March 2. Metro area highs are expected to reach the upper 50s this Saturday.

Saturday afternoon highs will range from 30s in northwestern and north-central Minnesota to lower 60s in the far south:

Sunday high temps could range from 30s in far northwestern Minnesota to around 70 degrees in the Twin Cities metro area and southeastern Minnesota:

It’ll be breezy on Sunday, with wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph:

Sunday shower chance

Scattered showers are possible Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale Forecast System model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 6 a.m. Sunday to 6 p.m. Sunday:

One forecast model shows a few thunderstorms developing in western Wisconsin late Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening. Parts of northwestern and north-central Minnesota could see steadier rain showers Sunday afternon, which could then mix with some snow late Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening.
