Get ready for another ride on Minnesota’s temperature roller coaster. Maybe we should name it the Polar Vortex.

We’re riding at the top of a little hill now and falling downward into the weekend, but there is a steep hill ahead early next week, and temperatures will soar into the 60s once again across the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota.

It felt like 2 distinct seasons across Minnesota Thursday. Springlike temperatures in the upper 40s and 50s felt good across southeastern Minnesota.

But it’s decidedly wintry across the northwest. Temperatures were in the upper teens and light snow fell across towns like Hallock, Karlstad, Thief River Falls, Roseau, and Warroad.

You can see the shades of blue on the map below as a wintry air mass favors the Rockies and northern tier.

There are signs of cooler weather, and at least a chance of snow for parts of Minnesota late next week.
