I have a feeling inches of rain are going to be like liquid gold this year in Minnesota. After all, we’ve seen 3 straight years of flash drought.

Our next weather system arrives Thursday for southern Minnesota. Tuesday’s forecast models favor a more southerly storm track. That will likely keep most of the rainfall south of the greater Twin Cities on Thursday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Forecast System model is typical of solutions that push a few showers into the Twin Cities Thursday, but focus more significant rainfall across southeastern Minnesota.

Rainfall totals look significant across parts of southeast Minnesota on Thursday. Most forecast models crank out the potential for 1 to 2 inches of rainfall in southeastern Minnesota by Friday.

So the drought zone that straddles the Iowa border looks like it has the best chance of getting meaningful rainfall on Thursday.

Stay tuned.
