A red flag warning goes into effect 11 a.m. through 8 p.m. for southwestern Minnesota due to dry and windy conditions elevating the fire threat. Widespread soaking rain develops for Tuesday.
Red flag warning southwest
A red flag warning is in effect midday through the evening Monday across southwestern Minnesota.
Afternoon relative humidity values will be just 15 to 30 percent for most of central and southern Minnesota.
These warm, dry conditions combined with gusty winds will elevate the fire threat as any fire could spread rapidly in these conditions.

Soggy Tuesday and Wednesday
Monday will see a fair amount of sun with increasing clouds ahead of the next storm system. There will be a few showers already in western Minnesota, but most will remain dry and warm.
Western Minnesota will see a few showers Monday with most of that activity fizzling as it moves through very dry air but one or two showers is possible in the Twin Cities.
Showers and thunderstorms develop Monday night into Tuesday and Wednesday with periods of heavy rain Tuesday. Showers will be more widely scattered Wednesday.
Up to 1 to 2 inches of precipitation could fall by Wednesday. There’s also a marginal risk of severe weather in the southern most counties of Minnesota Monday night into Tuesday night.
The main risk is farther south, but one or two stronger storms could hold together across far southern Minnesota.
Temperatures will be cooler, mostly in the 40s and 50s mid to late week, a little below normal. More showers are possible Thursday as a secondary upper low swings through the region. Temps warm back up by early next week.
