We’re digging our way out of drought in Minnesota. One storm at a time.

Our next soaking rains arrive starting Friday. But first, we enjoy two classic spring days.

Bright sunshine and bluebird skies return to most of Minnesota again Thursday. Highs will be about 10 degrees warmer than Tuesday, with highs in the 60s across much of Minnesota Thursday afternoon.

Soaking rains ahead

Our next soaking rains arrive starting on Friday. This is the first of two separate low-pressure systems. The first arrives on Friday. We may catch a break in rainfall most of Saturday but it looks like clouds will linger. The second storm arrives on Sunday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Forecast System model shows the likely rainfall scenario between Friday and Sunday:

Forecast models are generous with rainfall through the upcoming weekend. NOAA’s GFS and other models crank out between 1 and 3 inches of rain across most of Minnesota by Monday.

This week’s drought monitor update will reflect last week’s rainfall that arrives after the Tuesday morning cutoff. Next week should also see some improvement after our upcoming rainfall events.

Stay tuned.
