Friday will be very warm across southern and western Minnesota. There will be isolated thunder chances. More organized rainfall develops Sunday night.
Summer temps Friday, Saturday; isolated weekend rain chances
There are a few spotty showers and thunderstorms early Friday as warmer air surges into the state. There’s the possibility of a couple more developing later in the day, too.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s High-Resolution Rapid Refresh forecast model is the most aggressive:
The morning activity is developing ahead of the blast of warmer and more moist air aloft. Winds at about 4,000 feet up are pushing warmer air in on a low-level jet stream. This is creating elevated thunderstorm activity.

The best chances will be for the northern half of Minnesota into northwestern Wisconsin Friday afternoon and evening.
Temperatures will be running about 10 to 20 degrees above normal Friday as a blast of heat enters Minnesota.
Highs will be mainly in the 80s across southern and western Minnesota with some 90 degree readings west.
The next chance of rain will come Friday night and Saturday as a cool front moves across Minnesota. Once again, the best chance will be north and east.
Temperatures will cool off from west to east Saturday into Sunday behind a cold front but will still be warm.
Significant rainfall possible early next week
A more organized and widespread rainfall is looking increasingly likely Sunday night into Monday and Tuesday as a couple different disturbances move through the region.
Rainfall totals over the course of a couple of days could be significant, especially for southern Minnesota.
