The same upper-low from late last week is generating just enough instability Monday and Tuesday for isolated and spotty afternoon showers. Temperatures will trend upward this week.
Early-week isolated showers, then drier and warmer
We’ll have partly cloudy skies Monday and Tuesday but with lingering cool air aloft, daytime heating will create some isolated pop-up showers and a thunderstorm in the afternoon hours, especially in northern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
Highs Monday will be in the upper 70s to low 80s across the state.
The rest of the week will be mostly dry for most of the state from the midweek into the weekend. There’s the chance of some isolated thunder potentially this weekend.
Overall, an upper-level ridge builds into the region through the week allowing for dry weather and above-normal temperatures.
We’re finally in line for our first 90-degree temperature in the Twin Cities by the weekend. This will be the latest first 90 in the Twin Cities in 31 years.
Some wildfire smoke for northern Minnesota
We could see some wildfire smoke drift into northern Minnesota in the coming days. Moderate air quality is forecast for the northern half of the state due to Canadian wildfire smoke.
