Sen. Tina Smith says VP Harris is the ‘best person’ to unify party, win election

In just a day since President Joe Biden’s dropped out of the U.S. presidential race and endorsed Kamala Harris, the vice president has racked up many of the backers she'll need to win the Democratic party's nomination next month.

That includes party stalwart and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. MPR News has also found a majority of Minnesota’s delegates say they'll vote for Harris to lead the ticket. That includes U.S. Senator Tina Smith who said Harris is “the very best person in this moment to unify the Democratic Party and lead us forward to victory” in an official statement.

She spoke with All Things Considered guest host Emily Bright about why she’s endorsing Vice President Harris.
