The family of a child attacked last Friday by two dogs in Brooklyn Park says he is not expected to survive his injuries.
Organizers of an online fundraiser for 3-year-old Covil Allen and his family wrote that the parents are making arrangements for their son to be an organ donor.
According to a search warrant, the child was attacked at a dog sale in the backyard of a Brooklyn Park home. The warrant says other adults on the scene tried to pull the dogs off the child until first responders arrived and transported him to the hospital.
Allen’s mother was also attacked and sustained injuries to her legs. Fundraiser organizers say she has had two surgeries and will need a third.
Officers opened fire on the scene, killing one dog and injuring the other.
The incident remains under investigation. A spokesperson for the Brooklyn Park Police Department says investigators are still collecting evidence and expect the case to be given to prosecutors to consider charges sometime next week.
It was the first of two dog attacks in Brooklyn Park in the last week. On Tuesday, a 7-year-old girl was attacked by a dog and sustained minor injuries.
