Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach won the Republican primary in western Minnesota’s 7th District Tuesday, holding off a challenge from the right by Steve Boyd.

Fischbach claimed nearly 65 percent of the primary vote, to advance to November’s general election.

It was a contentious primary. While Fischbach had the support of former President Donald Trump, neither candidate secured the official party endorsement. But Fischbach said the GOP will unify this fall.

“I think this Republican team is going to come together and we are going to move forward and we're going to deliver the 7th District for President Trump,” she said Tuesday night, after the race was called in her favor.

“We are going to make sure that our state House members get reelected, and that we are strong in the state House. And I think that, you know, we’ve had primaries before, and I think after the primary, we come together and we move things forward for the Republican Party.”
