An air quality alert has been issued for portions of northwestern Minnesota. Wildfire smoke from Canada has pushed the Red River Valley areas in the red (unhealthy) and northwestern Minnesota into the yellow (moderate) category. The smoke will eventually affect all of northern Minnesota for Saturday.
Slow moving system; showers linger early Saturday
A low pressure system is now entering central Wisconsin and moving slower than expected. Scattered rain showers with some embedded thunder will continue into Friday evening.
Cloud cover and fog will linger for early Saturday before gradually clearing. Partly sunny skies develop with temperatures in the upper 70s expected for the metro area on Saturday.
Mostly sunny skies with warmer highs for Sunday in the mid to upper 80s, with dewpoints in the lower to mid 60s.
Quiet and calm through mid-week
High pressure will center itself over the Great Lakes region next week. Look for quiet weather conditions, with highs around our seasonal average in the low 80s. A warm up is expected through the second half of next week, just in time for the state fair.
