As meteorological summer begins to wind down, so does the day at an earlier time each week. Meteorologist and climatologist Mark Seeley says August started with 14 hours and 40 minutes of daylight and will lose about an hour and a half of daylight by the end of the month.

Precipitation remains persistent as overnight storms have brought at least a half-inch of rain to many areas. According to Seeley, the city of Wells in Faribault County reported over 43 inches of precipitation for this year, so far. The month has also been 2-3 degrees cooler than average.

MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke with Seeley about the last two weeks of summer and much more in their weekly weather chat.
