Expect isolated rain showers early Friday, with decreasing cloud cover. Moisture will move north as dew points return to the 60s. Hot and humid conditions are still on track for the first weekend of the Minnesota State Fair.
Fair weather snapshot
High pressure will begin to work its way in from the south, clearing out our cloud cover. A plume of moisture is also expected to surge northward with dew points returning to the 60s and even 70s by Saturday.
Here’s how the weather is shaping up for Friday at the fair:
12 p.m, temperatures around 68 degrees, south-southwest wind 8 mph, mostly cloudy, isolated showers move out
3 p.m., temperatures around 75, south-southwest wind 5-8 mph, partly cloudy
6 p.m., temperatures around 77, south wind 5 mph, mostly sunny
9 p.m., temperatures around 74, south wind 5 mph, mainly clear
Saturday’s forecast calls for sunshine and warm temperatures. Conditions will be dry with high pressure overhead. Here’s a look at Saturday’s fair forecast:

Hot and stormy early next week
With dew points in the 60s and even 70s this weekend, we could see heat indices approaching the upper 90s to low 100s on Sunday, especially for southeastern Minnesota.
A cold front will push through on Monday, bringing the risk of thunderstorms back to the forecast area. There is a slight risk for severe weather for northwestern Minnesota late Sunday into Sunday evening.
The upper atmosphere will be very warm then, which at times will make it hard for thunderstorms to fire and become organized. There is still a strong possibility of storms holding together as they make their way across central Minnesota into early Monday.
Later in the week, a much stronger cold front is on track to bring drier and cooler weather into Labor Day weekend.
