Minnesota will see incredibly hot and humid conditions Sunday and Monday. Highs in the low 90s coupled with dew points in the 70s equals heat indices topping 100 degrees. A cold front will move through on Monday, sparking some strong to severe storms.
Sunday starts our two-day stretch of miserable, oppressive, even dangerous weather conditions. High temperatures will climb into the low 90s with partly cloudy skies for Sunday.
Dew points started around 70 degrees early Sunday, and are expected to climb into the mid-70s by Sunday afternoon. Heat indices will exceed the 100-degree mark. Dewpoints for the next 48 hours will not fall below 70, and even some 80-degree dew points are possible.

Low temperatures Sunday night will only drop into the lower to mid-70s.
Northwestern Minnesota could see some strong thunderstorms ahead of a cold front Sunday. The storms will start out isolated and could grow into clusters by Sunday evening.
Excessive heat warning
The National Weather Service has extended an excessive heat warning to include a large portion of central and southern Minnesota.

Heat indices will range between 100-110 degrees through Monday before a cold front relieves us from the heat.
It is important to remember important safety tips during times of excessive heat:
Drink plenty of fluids (water or beverages with electrolytes are best)
Wear light colored clothing
Stay out of the sun
Air conditioned and indoors is best during the heat
Do not leave pets or children in hot vehicles
Check on vulnerable adults
Severe weather possible for Monday
Highs on Monday across the state will differ greatly from Sunday. Expect highs in the 70s in northwestern Minnesota to highs in the mid-90s south. A cold front is what will set the stage for what could be a busy weather night. Storms are expected to fire off in South Dakota and progress northeastward into southern Minnesota.
There is a risk for large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes. Monday’s severe event will have a late evening-overnight timeframe. Storms will enter western Minnesota around 7-8 p.m. and track towards the metro area by 2-3 a.m.
