Warm, breezy Friday with spotty showers Saturday

Look for another very warm day Friday. Moisture coming in from the west and south will converge to produce some spotty showers late Friday night and Saturday.

Rinse and repeat. Well, except for the rinse part I guess since we’ve been dry. Temperatures will once again warm to readings about 10 degrees above normal — in the mid-80s — across much of southern Minnesota Friday.

We’ll start to see increased high clouds later in the day Friday from the southeast. This is remnant moisture from former hurricane Francine.

That, combined with a system coming in from the west, will increase cloud cover for Saturday and produce at least some spotty showers and thunder.

Saturday will be a touch cooler due to the cloud cover and some showers.

Expect Sunday to be brighter and warmer on the other side of it with highs back into the 80s for most.

Above-normal temperatures linger heading into next week. Highs will continue in the 80s for southern Minnesota with 70s northeast. There are indications that we’ll start to cool off some by next weekend and into the following week (Sept. 23-27).

Overall, the pattern is expected to remain warmer-than-normal but shift to a wetter-than-normal pattern as well.

The upper-level pattern switches to an unsettled one. The mid and upper-level pattern will shift into a southwest to northeast oriented flow which will bring one disturbance after another starting midweek into next weekend.

Late Wednesday will see the first chance of spotty showers and thunder into Thursday. This will be just the first opportunity in the next seven to 10 days.

Most of us will need the moisture by then. After an incredibly wet spring and summer, the past two weeks have been the second driest two weeks of the year on a statewide basis, according to Twin Cities climatologist Mark Seeley.
