It finally feels like October with a chilly air mass in place. We’ll see a few sprinkles today with some snow showers in northeastern Minnesota. Widespread frost is likely the next two nights.
Chilly start to the week, then gradual warming
It’s a cold start with many subfreezing temperatures north and west early Monday. We have another chilly day Monday with highs ranging from just the low 50s south to the mid-40s north. It will be less windy with north winds at 5-15 mph.
We’ll have a mix of clouds and sun with a few isolated sprinkles in central and southern Minnesota. Northeastern Minnesota will see some snow showers mixing with light rain showers.
Clouds will clear out and winds will be calm overnight into Tuesday as high pressure settles over Minnesota. This will set us up for a cold night and the first widespread frost-freeze for all but the urban core of the Twin Cities.
Tuesday will remain cool but sunny. Temperatures will warm back above normal by Thursday and Friday with 70s returning southern Minnesota. Those readings will be 10 to 20 degrees above normal again.
The next chance at some light rain showers develops west Friday and across much of the state, possibly by Friday night and Saturday. Unfortunately, the rain looks to be fairly light.
